All of the animals at Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue are special.

Every one of them has been rescued for the sole purpose of providing him or her a safe place to live a long and happy life with others of their kind. They all have a story and a name… they each have their own unique personalities and preferences just like humans do. They receive individual loving care with food, water, play, space to run, walk, sleep and have all of their medical needs provided for without question.

  • Brooklyn - Brooklyn was found running the streets of Brooklyn, New York. He is a male of a special egg laying breed. He's extremely beautiful, friendly, and is always nice to "his girls". He's the head rooster and even though he knows it, he's a really good boy. Everyone agrees that he is very good looking and has a great personality.
  • Bronx - Bronx was brought in by the Bronx animal control staff. Many times, animals are seen on the streets and are picked up with no real destination, so they are often brought to the nearest sanctuary. We weren't told Bronxies story but we're thankful he's here now. Bronx is a smaller phantom breed rooster and he is so nice. He gets along well with the others in his areas. He has a really good personality. We love having him here at Skylands.
  • Brianna & Winter - On December 27th, 2018 Mike received a telephone call at about 2:45 am from a police officer friend named Brian. He was saying there was a cow that had jumped out of a transport truck right onto route 80 and that she was running down the side of the highway. Mike hooked up the truck and they took the trailer to the location as fast as they could. Paterson Police, New Jersey State Police, Paterson Animal Control, and two helpful tow truck drivers who had stopped to assist had roped her with a long strap and had herded her to the side of the road where she was out of…
  • Bonnie - One day, Mike received an unexpected telephone call from the local SPCA which is only about 1/2 hour away. They said they needed help with a pig rescue. When he arrived at the location they gave him, Mike could see that this was a horrible neglect case. Sickened, his first thought was that he'd never seen so many piles of dead animals. There were ten large animals left and he took nine of them. The tenth was a bull that he had already found a home for. The property where the neglected animals were being kept was managed by someone with an auction. This person was getting animals for a…
  • Angel Angel - Occasionally, Mike talks to local farmers. Around December of 2017, he spoke to a man who sells to farms. They had beef cattle. Mike said "you're gonna give me one of the calves right? I could use one. I'll take one and give him a good life." "We'll see we'll see," he said laughing. He liked Mike. So from then on, whenever he saw the man, Mike would say "where's my calf? I want a female calf now. Don't forget!" and they would laugh... it became kind of a thing.  Then one day it paid off. He finally called to see if Mike was around. He said, "I have a…
